Family Support Worker - Derbyshire Youth Justice Service
The Youth Justice Team covering South Derbyshire have a vacancy for a permanent full time Family Support Worker based at our Ilkeston Office.
You will be dealing with children who are involved with the Justice System through both 'Out of Court' and Court processes. We are a trauma informed service and have access to psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and a CAMHS Worker.
Consequently, you should have a proven record of dealing with children in a trauma informed way. The ability to engage children, write assessments, reports and plans is crucial to this role.
Derbyshire Youth Justice Service works with young people aged 10-17 on both court orders and out of court disposals. Our operating models include Stronger Families, Safer Children and the Trauma Recovery Model. We were inspected by HMIP in 2022 and we were judged to be Good. We are further developing our service offer to children at risk of offending. Our culture is enshrined in our mission statement: "Child First in everything we say, do and write. What will I be doing:
To achieve this you will provide universal and targeted support for children and young people to include: -
- Through completing holistic assessments to identify the needs and contribute to the development and delivery of high quality and effective work with children, young people and their families to facilitate and maximise the opportunities for their personal, social and educational development.
- To ensure that vulnerable children and young people and those with a disability are identified and supported so that they can aim to achieve stability, safety and permanence to enable them to thrive within their community and achieve their full potential.
- To persuade, empower and motivate families to engage and overcome barriers to change which may involve managing and overcoming challenging behaviour from family members.
- To work with our partner agencies to ensure a co-ordinated approach so all support is provided to children and young people.
- Prepare reports and other reports for courts and other multi agency professional meetings.
What skills and experience do you need to have:
The successful candidate will be expected to work with minimal supervision and possess skills around engaging and motivating young people. Experience of working with young people and their families is necessary. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate administration and IT skills and have a flexible approach to work. Good communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines are essential.
