Derbyshire County Council is excited to offer three dynamic graduate programmes in Highways, Transport Development Management and People & Organisational Change. These programmes provide an excellent opportunity to develop your career while contributing to the well-being and development of Derbyshire.

Highways

  • Relevant Degrees (include but not limited to): Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Geography, Environmental Science, & Architecture.
  • Programme Description: Join our Highways department to help shape and enhance Derbyshire's environment, infrastructure, and economy. You'll be involved in designing, planning, and managing construction projects that improve our infrastructure. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a manual UK driving license is essential. Expect to be on-site or in the office up to 5 days per week.

Transport Development Management

  • Relevant Degrees (include but not limited to): Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Geography, Environmental Science, Project Management.
  • Programme Description: Be part of our team that ensures development aligns with sustainable growth and community needs. You'll respond to planning applications, manage highway improvements, and assess transport modelling data. Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills are essential, along with a commitment to sustainability. A manual UK driving license is desirable for site visits. Hybrid working arrangements to be discussed at interview.

People & Organisational Change

  • Relevant Degrees (include but not limited to): Project Management, Business Administration, Public Policy & Management, Information Technology, Digital, Marketing & Analysis, Human Resources.
  • Programme Description: Work within our Portfolio Management & Transformation team to deliver impactful changes across Council departments. You'll gain hands-on experience in project management, applying methodologies like PRINCE2 and Agile. We're looking for innovative, motivated graduates with excellent organisational and communication skills. Hybrid working arrangements to be discussed at interview.

You need to be willing to commit for two years of full-time work, to start in September 2025 until August 2027 (you'll of course get annual leave and bank holidays off!) and be able to work from our head office at County Hall in Matlock, on location around Derbyshire and remotely from home. Working arrangements are service specific, some placements may require 100% onsite work.

Initial interviews to take place in January/February 2025 on Teams followed by Assessment Centres to be held at County Hall, Matlock in February 2025.
