North East Derbyshire District Council is a dynamic and ambitious organisation that takes pride in delivering excellent services to our community whilst driving economic growth and environmental sustainability for the district. We are looking for an experienced individual who will lead and facilitate the Council's response to environmental and organisational sustainability challenges and the Climate Change mitigation agenda, influencing policy and strategy.

You will be working within the Programme Management Team whose remit includes responsibility for policy and strategy development and programme management of external funding, including UK Shared Prosperity, Locality Health Partnership and Climate Change schemes.

Reporting to the Programmes Manager, the Sustainability Officer will be responsible for delivering the Council's Climate Change Strategy and ensuring ongoing review and development of the Strategy to ensure it remains fit for purpose to address changes in local and global demands, opportunities and policy changes.

To ensure the delivery of the Council's Climate Change Action Plan the postholder will lead and facilitate the Council's response to environmental and organisational sustainability challenges and the Climate Change mitigation agenda, working closely with internal departments to develop, lead and deliver key projects and initiatives that ensure environmentally sound application of the Council's business practices. The postholder will also work with key partners across the County and sub-region, including the Local Authority Energy Partnership, to ensure the Council contributes to the development and delivery of collaborative Climate Change approaches.

To be successful you will need:

  • To have knowledge of current sustainability/climate change policy at a regional/national level.
  • Experience of developing and implementing strategies and projects within the area of Sustainability and Climate Change.
  • Experience of working with key stakeholders, including Senior Managers, Elected Members and external partners to deliver against the Climate Change agenda.
  • To be a self-motivated and enthusiastic worker who can work independently.

The post is office based at District Council Offices, Mill Lane, Wingerworth with potential for hybrid working subject to operational requirements. The job will require a full driving licence and access to a vehicle as attendance at partner meetings across the County and sub-region will be required.
