We have a great opportunity for a Buddy/Support Worker for our very sociable and energetic 17-year-old client, this rewarding role will allow you to get involved in activities such as swimming, cycling with our client on his electric bike, and to join him in his social activities with friends. You will need to be a driver (over 21 for insurance purposes) able to drive our client's automatic vehicle as you will drive him to and from various appointments, social events and to pick up prescriptions when required.

The Role:

Our client is an amputee, living at home with his family and pet dog. He attends mainstream education and enjoys being active and sociable. As his Buddy/Support Worker you would accompany him on outings and various appointments, and help him explore new activities and develop new skills

Our client uses a wheelchair some of the time and you would be required to help him with mobility. No personal care is required in this role however you may be required to assist with care of his leg.

Our client undertakes physiotherapy exercises and gym activities at home so you will support and supervise him during this time.

You will be required to help our client prepare snacks and meals and help with maintenance of his equipment. You will be expected to keep his spaces and the Buddy/Support Worker designated space clean and tidy. Some general admin is part of this role on his behalf, such as arranging prosthetic appointments and servicing of equipment.

About You:

Ideally, you will have some Support Work/Care experience but more important is your attitude and aptitude for the job as full training will be provided.

You will be flexible around the hours you can work in order to accommodate his college timetable, appointments and social activity requirements. Your hours will include one morning a week for physiotherapy sessions and some weekend hours as well as other weekday/evening hours, equating to approximately 20 hours per week.

You will be a reliable and patient person with a positive outlook and fun-loving personality, who is empathetic to working with a young person with additional needs.

You will enjoy taking our client out to activities and happy to join him in outdoor activities such as electric biking. He has his own electric bike and there is also one for his buddy to use. You will be pro-active in working with our client to plan activities and encourage his independence. Whilst engaging with him in the social and leisure activities he currently undertakes, you will also be proactive in exploring other activities he may enjoy. You will be able to work around his pet dog and have no allergies.

Pay:

£16 per hour during 6-month probationary period, up to £18 per hour thereafter.

Shifts:

20 hours a week

An enhanced DBS certificate is a requirement, criminal convictions may not necessarily prevent employment. The Post operates a non-smoking environment at all times.
