Support Worker Sunday Shifts, Hayling Island, P011

Finders Keepers Recruitment

Job Description

PLEASE NOTE: We do not offer sponsorship on any of our roles & therefore cannot accept any applications that require this.

As an outdoors activities fan, our client loves to play archery and is a novice golfer, he also rides a tandem. A loves to help out looking after the animals at his local farm and has a pet cat. He loves being social and visiting the cinema. If you love active outdoor sports or animals you could be a great fit for this one-to-one care role.

Our Client & the Role:

A is an intelligent 30-year-old man with an Acquired Brain Injury incurred when he was involved in a Road Traffic Accident 10 years ago which has left him with right-sided weakness. He requires help with all aspects of personal care, with meal and drink preparation/consumption and assistance with walking indoors as he can be unsteady. He requires help attending social activities in the community or shopping where he gets around on his powered wheelchair or scooter.

A is non-verbal but communicates well using a text to voice communication system. He lives alone in an adapted self-contained bungalow, supported by his Care Team. During quieter periods of the shift, you will be expected to tidy the home and carry out light household tasks including some laundry.

A can become frustrated and impatient, and this will reflect in some non-violent behavioural displays but with well organised routines, these can be avoided.

About You:

You will be happy to join our client on days out. You will need to be a driver, as you will need to drive our client in his own automatic car.

As you will be helping look after A's pet cat, you will not have any allergies and be happy to help with pet care.

You will be an experienced care giver, with qualification to NVQ2 level or equivalent and ideally with experience supporting clients with an Acquired Brain Injury. Client specific training/shadow shifts will be given and paid for. This training will initially take place across the week, including weekdays so you would need to have availability, at least for the first couple of months, to undertake training on these days. Following the initial period, periodically there will be update training and supervision/team meetings which will take place on weekdays and applicants must have flexibility to attend ad hoc events when required.

You will work with our client and his therapists, following his Care plan and encouraging him with voice and physiotherapy exercises, to help him achieve his rehabilitation goals. Previous experience working with Therapists would be advantageous however, please do apply if you do not have experience in this area as training will be given.

You will be a positive, caring individual who has a sociable personality and a nurturing approach to A's care and have patience in communicating with him and encourage our client in both his chosen hobbies and other activities which he might find of interest. It would be great if you shared an interest in some of our client's hobbies but an open attitude to learning about his interests is equally valued.
