Asylum Lead

Lancashire County Council seeks an experienced Asylum Lead Officer to manage the strategic priorities of the Lancashire Refugee Integration Team (LRIT). The role involves being the main contact for various stakeholders, including UKVI, local government, charities, accommodation providers, and health services. The officer will work in diverse accommodation settings, aiming to facilitate access to essential services and support long-term integration goals for asylum seekers and host communities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage Workload: Utilise knowledge and experience in refugee resettlement and asylum dispersal to make decisions and address issues proactively.
  • Service Planning: Prioritise service requirements according to departmental policies.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Collaborate with partners to meet the needs of refugee and asylum seeker communities.
  • Safeguarding: Maintain knowledge of safeguarding procedures and referral pathways.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work with third sector organisations, local authorities, and other stakeholders to develop asylum and refugee communities.
  • Information Tools: Develop local area guides and online networks.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain effective communications with agencies and service providers.
  • Service Improvement: Identify gaps in service provision and work with partners to implement improvements.
  • Housing Support: Assist those in their 'move on' period.
  • Partnership Working: Lead on asylum sector partnerships.
  • Awareness Promotion: Raise awareness about the role's activities.
  • Organise Networks: Help organise stakeholder networks and conferences.
  • Specialist Advice: Provide advice on community cohesion, safety, and development.
  • Policy Improvement: Identify opportunities for policy and procedure improvements.
  • Project Management: Plan and manage projects delivering relevant services.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Asylum Dispersal Systems: Broad knowledge of asylum dispersal systems and refugee integration.
  • Health Frameworks: Understanding of local and national health frameworks and pathways.
  • Safeguarding: Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
  • Research Skills: Strong research and information management skills.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Detailed understanding of relevant professional, regulatory, statutory, and corporate frameworks.
