Applications are invited friendly, caring and compassionate individuals to work in our Regional Disability and MS Team. The role is based at Walkergate Park Hospital in Newcastle, working 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
The Regional Disability Team offers a range of services for people with long term neurological disability from the age of 16 years onwards and Community Multiple Sclerosis Team offers specialised community and outpatient rehabilitation for people with MS also offering support to families at any stage following diagnosis.
The ideal candidate should have excellent communication, customer service and organisational skills, as well as a working knowledge of office procedures including IT skills.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will be:
- Communicating at all levels, with high volumes of telephone calls from service users, external professionals and carers/relatives
- Accurately updating patient details within RiO (the Trust's patient information system)
- Formatting documents
- Scanning and uploading
- Dealing with correspondence
- Assisting with ad hoc requests
- Experience of Microsoft Office and working within an administrative environment are essential to the post. Knowledge of RiO is desirable.
The post holder will also undertake additional duties such as ordering supplies, requesting repairs and updating rotas and duty sheets and cover reception/other departments on the site where necessary. This list is not exhaustive.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Intermediate (Level 2) Typing/Word processing qualification and/or relevant demonstrable experience e.g. 12 months experience
- Good general level of education up to Level 1 standard in English Language and Maths.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration or Customer Service.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Able to input data accurately and efficiently and undertake repetitive tasks whilst maintaining attention to detail
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, face-to-face and non-facing customers.
Desirable
- Knowledge of working in an NHS environment.
- Ability to maintain and update patient information database(s).
- Experience of dealing with Petty Cash
Experience
Essential
- Ability to uphold confidentiality at all times
- Able to prioritise and plan own workload.
- Experience of carrying out administrative tasks, e.g., data input, receiving and making telephone calls.
Desirable
- Experience of working in an NHS/health care setting and processing NHS/Healthcare documentation
