Adult Mental Health Recovery and Wellbeing Specialist Worker

NHS

Job Description

Job summary

The Family Safeguarding Team is an innovative partnership model between Somerset County Council and a network of voluntary sector organisations. The wider Family Safeguarding Team is comprised of substance misuse, domestic abuse, adult mental health workers and childrens social workers. Workers from specialist organisations join together to form one team working with families. The Family Safeguarding Team focuses on working to develop parents strengths to positively change their behaviour and relationships in order to improve their childrens lives. By assisting parents to make positive changes more children can stay at home with their birth family and thrive, not just survive. Family Safeguarding is part of Open Mental Health, which is a ground-breaking model bringing together NHS, Statutory and Voluntary agencies to deliver targeted and holistic mental health support. Open Mental Health connects people to community resources, builds resilience and improves wellbeing through targeted interventions and a coordinated approach around the individual with an ethos of no wrong door. The Family Safeguarding service is supported by a Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Therapist to offer support to both clients and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work as part of a co-located multi-disciplinary team of childrens social workers, domestic abuse and substance misuse specialists to safeguard and reduce risks to children, based in Childrens Services. They will be responsible for individual and group work with parents whose behaviours mean their families are at risk of harm. They will ensure that parents who come into the family safeguarding programme, and have a mental health condition, are provided with holistic, strengths-based support, focusing on the individual needs of the parent and family, linking with wider Open Mental Health offer of support as required. This link will be enabled through the Open Mental Health locality MDT operating model so clinical support from Somerset Foundation Trust can be stepped up as and when needed. This support will, in turn, form part of the whole multi-disciplinary support plan for the family.
