Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Advanced Clinical practitioner to join CNTW Eating Disorder Team and work across the provider Collaborative.

The Provider Collaborative for Adult Eating Disorders covers North East and North Cumbria. Including Inpatient units and Intensive Day Services in CNTW and TEWV.

MEED guidelines were published in 2022 by RCPsych, first definitive guideline for assessment and management of patients presenting with medical risk due to eating disorders. Recommendations include setting up local MEED oversight groups in order to jointly develop pathways and policies to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Implementation of these recommendations has been dependent on local interest and resources and is therefore inconsistent across the North East and North Cumbria. This is the first dedicated role to be funded for this purpose in this region.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be competent in the assessment and management of patients with eating disorders including:

- medical and psychiatric risk assessment

- care planning and coordination

- medical, psychological and nutritional interventions, including NG feeding and supported eating

The post holder will have experience of teaching and training, quality improvement and service development.

The post holder must be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively with a wide range of services and professionals. Therefore, excellent communication and organisational skills will be required.

Key working relationships

1. Multidisciplinary teams with the adult eating disorder services in CNTW and TEWV, particularly working with medics/psychiatrists, dietitians and care coordinators

2. Medical, nursing and dietetic staff on medical wards within acute trusts in the North East and North Cumbria

3Psychiatric Liaison Teams working into medical wards

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • First level Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Postgraduate qualification/or working towards at Masters Level of Equivalent
  • Evidence of experience in therapeutic interventions relevant to speciality i.e. PSI, CBT, Family Interventions, Group Work, NMP

Desirable

  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Advanced level therapeutic training in one of the modalities

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of MDT working within areas relevant to designated team
  • Substantial experience in a nursing leadership role
  • Have been involved in service development changes
  • Experience of training and education

Desirable

  • Experience of contributing to the development of nursing at a regional level
  • Experience of being involved in research/ willing to contribute to research projects.

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries internally and externally
  • Leadership skills
