An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational therapist to work in the Islington Learning Disabilities Partnership (ILDP).
ILDP is a forward thinking, fully integrated health and social care community team whose dedicated staff and service providers were awarded the Camden & Islington Team of the Year (2021). We are a well-resourced service and are passionate about delivering high quality support to adults with global learning disabilities and their networks. We are a multidisciplinary team (MDT) consisting of psychiatry, psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy and physiotherapy and we pride ourselves on our high levels of collaboration, working alongside social work and the Community Support Outreach teams.
Our MDT has reputation for being friendly, inclusive and sociable. We have regular celebrations within the office to mark a range of religious festivals, bring and share lunches and a monthly walking group. We are located in Islington beside the Arsenal and enjoy the benefits of our own building with many of our day provisions and residential services being a short walk away.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work within the well-established Occupational Therapist team and will use highly specialist skills to assess the impact of an individual's learning disabilities on their occupational performance through the use of specific OT standardised assessments (e.g. AMPS, MOHOST, Sensory Profile, MOHO ExpLOR) and non-standardised assessments. They will implement, monitor and evaluate highly specialist treatment programmes.
The successful applicant will have a key role in the assessment if learning disability in our transition age cohort as well as in adults. They will also contribute to carrying out autism assessments for people with learning disabilities, and work on our Behaviours of Concern, Mental Health and Dementia pathways. There will also be opportunities to contribute to service development work within the service (e.g. Anti-Racism Steering Group, Embedding Trauma Informed Care and Improving Women's Health) and with our partners, including offering training and consultation.
The successful candidate will offer both direct and indirect interventions to clients, families and paid carers.

Job responsibilities
The post holder, as part of the Islington Learning Disabilities Partnership (ILDP), will hold a complex caseload and provide highly specialist assessment and treatment to adults with learning disabilities and additional complex needs such as autism and sensory processing difficulties, behaviours of concern, mental health, dementia, complex health and social care needs and physical disabilities. They will work with a range of people with mild to severe and profound learning disabilities.
The post holder will work with Band 6 OT for the Occupational Therapy service in maintaining the Occupational Therapy pathway within the Transition Service at ILDP with regards to Eligibility and signposting for young people coming into adult services.
The post holder will undertake Learning Disability Assessments, jointly with health and social care colleagues, for adults newly referred to ILDP.
The post holder will use highly specialist skills to assess the impact of an individuals learning disabilities on their occupational performance through the use of specific OT standardised assessments (e.g. AMPS, MOHOST, Sensory Profile, MOHO ExpLOR) and non-standardised assessments. The post holder will implement, monitor and evaluate highly specialist treatment programmes.
The post holder will be responsible for identification, development and delivery of training, in collaboration with the Lead OT and the multi-disciplinary team, to the network supporting people with learning disabilities with the aim of maximising individuals engagement in their everyday activities.
The post holder will support the Lead OT in service development and management of the day to day running of the Occupational Therapy Service.

Qualifications
Essential
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Evidence of Post Graduate or equivalent specialist training in areas of practice relevant to the post e.g. sensory modulation, learning disabilities, mental health
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist
Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Skills in the use of a range of methods of occupational therapy assessments, intervention and management for the full range of problems of severity and complexity presented by adults with learning disabilities, including challenging behaviours
- Ability to implement sensory modulation approaches
- To develop supportive clinical supervision for Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Students
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of standardised assessments eg. AMPS, MOHOST, MOHO ExpLOR and REIS
- Highly developed experience and knowledge of theory and practice of occupational therapy with people with learning disabilities
- Highly developed experience of occupational therapy assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including community, primary care, outpatient and inpatient settings
Desirable
- Experience and knowledge of positive behavioural support approach (PBS)
