Are you an experienced and dedicated teacher with a passion for making a difference? Our Physical and Medical Needs team are looking for a qualified Advisory Teacher to join their dedicated team!

As part of this role, you will work in schools and settings to promote the inclusion and achievement of children and young people with physical or medical needs, some of whom have significant and complex needs. Advisory Teachers have long term involvement with individual children and young people with the most complex needs, their families, schools and settings, and other services that support them. You will work flexibly, supporting pupils continued access to education and appropriate progression, particularly at times of transition and when needs change.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a qualified teacher with extensive experience in SEND, exceptional personal, organisational, and communication skills, as well as a creative mindset and a can do attitude. Experience in supporting pupils to overcome physical barriers to learning is particularly valuable, and an understanding of manual handling would be advantageous.

The role is based in Trowbridge but involves working across the county, requiring independent work and travel to various locations. As the position can sometimes be isolating, resilience and resourcefulness will be essential qualities for this role.

Job responsibilities

The Advisory Teacher for Physical and Medical Needs will work in close co-operation with other advisory teachers, education staff, parents, health and SEND officers in order to promote the inclusion and achievement of children and young people with physical and medical needs in education settings. This will involve providing expertise that is additional to that which is generally available in schools and settings; building their capacity to work effectively, independently and inclusively in supporting pupils with physical and medical needs to access the environment, the curriculum and make good progress. Advisory Teachers have long term involvement with individual children and young people with the most complex needs, their families, schools and settings, and other services that support them. They work flexibly, supporting pupils continued access to education and appropriate progression, particularly at times of transition and when needs change.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully qualified teacher status
  • Has up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the safeguarding of, vulnerable children and young people
  • Has current knowledge of a range of strategies, interventions and resources that can be used to
