We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Head of Volunteering to join our amazing hospice and charity, which provides essential care for patients with life limiting illness, and support for their families/carers.
Main duties of the job
Working as the Assistant Head of Volunteering, you will be supporting the Head of Volunteering, deputising as required and providing a central point of co-ordination for volunteers at Willowbrook Hospice. By agreement with the Head of Volunteering, you will implement consistent volunteer management processes across the organisation and be the lead on recruitment training, development and retention of volunteers.

Willowbrook Hospice is a purpose built independent hospice opened in 1997. It is an adult hospice caring for patients with specialist palliative care needs, serving the community of St Helens and Knowsley. It was built with the support of local people.
Willowbrook hospice is not just a building, it is a way of caring for people. The Hospice works to improve the lives of people who have a life-limiting or terminal illness, helping them to live well before they die.
Willowbrook Hospice not only takes care of peoples physical needs but looks after their emotional, spiritual and social needs as well. It also supports carers, family members and close friends, both during a persons illness and in bereavement.
Job responsibilities
The Assistant Head of Volunteering plays a vital role in supporting the operations of Willowbrook Hospice by working closely with the local communities of St Helens and Knowsley to recruit, train, and support a diverse group of volunteers.
Volunteers are integral to the success of Willowbrook Hospice, and the Assistant Head of Volunteering will support the aim that volunteers are equipped with the appropriate skills, experience and development opportunities to meet the hospices growing needs.
This role also emphasises promoting the value of volunteering, fostering a positive volunteer experience, and ensuring volunteers feel valued and supported. The successful candidate will benefit from an agreed training and development plan during their employment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Run recruitment campaigns to secure appropriate numbers of volunteers including the use of social media.
Carry out an appropriate selection process to recruit and retain effective and enthusiastic volunteers.
Deliver induction training to support the development and readiness of volunteers for the role.
Support the delivery of the community Compassionate Neighbours and Chatty Cafe service across the St Helens and Knowsley boroughs.
Maintain all relevant volunteer systems to ensure they are up to date including the Volunteer Portal.
Monitor, develop and support volunteers performance to maximise their effectiveness and retention.
Utilise social media to raise and maintain the profile of Willowbrook volunteers.
Work collaboratively across Willowbrook to manage internal volunteer-related enquiries to meet the needs of the organisation and the community.
Support and develop relationships with external stakeholders.
Be aware of personal and professional need to adhere to all Hospice Policies/Guidelines.
Assist and collate statistical information as required.
Assist in the running of volunteer recognition events throughout the year.
Assist with the organising of volunteer team meetings.
Ensure all volunteer on boarding and training paperwork is kept up to date.
To process the paperwork for all our work placement programmes.
GENERAL
Be aware of personal responsibilities with regard to all other Hospice Policies/ Guidelines
Be aware of obligations and statutory rights with regard to disciplinary and grievance procedure.
The post holder will observe the hospices No Smoking policy.
The post holder will adhere to the Fire, Health & Safety Regulations and Policies of the hospice.
You are required to attend, complete and comply with annual mandatory training requirements plus any other training as deemed appropriate.
The Assistant Head of volunteering may be required to attend the Hospice Volunteer Managers Network quarterly meetings and conference.
Expected to link and network with Hospice UK and other relevant charitable organisations to share best practice.
