Job summary

DSFS Ltd based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital are looking to recruit into the role of Assistant Management Accountant. This is a key role within the broader finance team and operates within a team of Assistant Accountants supporting the functioning and delivery of high quality financial information and reporting.

This role will work closely with the Divisional Management Accountant with the primary aim of preparing monthly management accounts for their designated Division, in addition to engaging with operational team members to discuss budgets, establishments and ongoing developments across the service. Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the preparation and updating of divisional income and expenditure budgets.
  • Identify, monitor and investigate variances and input journals relating to expenditure and income.
  • Ensure payroll amendments and details held in the payroll system agree with establishment reports.
  • Hold monthly meetings with Budget Mangers to review the staffing establishment and budget variances.
  • Raise sales invoices and assist with collection of outstanding debt.
  • Respond to ad-hoc queries raised by the division, including the costing of development proposals.
  • Carry out month-end and year-end budget reconciliations.
  • Complete monthly control account reviews.
  • Assist with the bi-annual check of the Asset Register.
  • Write and maintain desktop procedures.
  • Assist with the provision of training for finance and non-finance staff.
  • Provide support in conjunction with other Assistant Accountants to ensure continuation of service in respect to all areas of responsibility.
  • Carry out administrative and other duties as may be required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Achieved 5 GCSE's including Maths and English
  • Studying AAT

Desirable

  • AAT Qualification
  • Studying towards a CCAB qualification
  • Degree level education

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience of computerised financial applications
  • Good understanding of accounting principles
  • Experience of working effectively in a team

Desirable

  • Previous experience within NHS finance
  • Management and/or Financial Accounts experience

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent IT skills including advanced spread sheet techniques
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including preparation and presentation of financial information
  • Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate initiative
