Job summary

Brabourne ward is an 8 bedded inpatient unit

We provide nursing care for patients with a haematological malignancy.

The Successful candidate has to be able to demonstrate compassion and professionalism whilst delivering excellent patient centred care, whilst upholding the EKHUFT Trust Values

You will be expected to work with various members of the Multidisciplinary team including Macmillan, working closely alongside the team in the Cathedral unit (Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit)

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the delivery of patients individual care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse.

To assist the Nursing staff in performing clinical duties, such as Venepuncture and cannulation. Assist trained nurses by carrying out central line flushes, with full support, competent based protocols, and under indirect supervision (full training will be given).

To undertake observations using appropriate equipment, e.g BP monitor, glucose monitor etc and ensure correct recording of observations. Recognise when these results are outside of safe limits for that patient and report to a senior member of staff appropriately.

Job responsibilities

To provide support to the Nursing team, ensuring the maintenance of high standards of patient care in response to service needs.

To perform cannulation of patients appropriate for treatment-this does not include SACT,

Demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables you to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse in charge and i accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies. Undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which you have been trained and assessed as competent.

To undertake observations using appropriate equipment, e.g Blood pressure monitor, ECGs, Urinalysis and glucose monitors and ensure correct and accurate readings/results. Recognise when these results are outside of safe limits for the patient and report to a senior member of staff.

To provide patient/carers with information that is appropriate, timely and in a form to meet their individual needs.

To act as a role model for student nurses and colleagues
