Job Description
Job summary
Senior Dental Nurse work within a dental team providing high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service, Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and /or additional external sites as required.
Senior Dental Nurse will be responsible for the efficient operation in the Restorative One Department within the Birmingham Dental Hospital and work alongside Specialist Dental Nurses to support the Division's aim of providing high quality care for patients. Post holders will be expected to work flexibly across different sites/departments where dental treatment is provided.
There is a requirement to work autonomously to manage a team and use significant discretion when clinical and staffing issues arise.
Main duties of the job
The role involves maintaining high standards of patient care, supporting dental services, managing clinical duties, ensuring equipment maintenance, and adhering to health and safety protocols. It includes staff training, auditing, risk management, incident handling, and liaising with departments for service improvement. Leadership duties include managing Band 4 dental nurses, supervising apprentices, conducting performance reviews, ensuring compliance with GDC guidelines, and handling staff performance and absence. The position also involves training staff, ensuring mandatory training, mentoring, and evaluating apprentices. Budgetary responsibilities include stock control, ordering consumables, and supporting service needs.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
- A Dental Nurse qualification that enables registration with the General Dental Council i.e. NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing or Dental Nursing National Certificate in Dental Nursing / Gained entry onto GDC register via grand-parenting (pre 2008)
- Registered with the General Dental Council
- Hold a Level 3 Management Qualification or equivalent e.g. ILM
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable
- Possess a recognised Post Qualification e.g. Dental Sedation Nursing, Dental Implant Nursing, Dental Radiography, Orthodontics
Experience

- Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry
