Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Research, Development and Innovation (R, D & I) department at UHB.
The post is a full time, permanent post, based with the Core Delivery team at Heartlands Hospital. The post is for a HIV & Sexual Health Research Nurse and therefore the successful candidate will primarily co-ordinate the set up and smooth delivery of research studies in conjunction with the Core Delivery team within the HIV and sexual health portfolio.
The successful applicant should have:
*Excellent organisational/prioritisation skills
*Excellent communication skills with all levels of staff
*IT skills in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, e-mail systems etc
*Be able to work under own initiative and have an ability to prioritize own workload
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate relevant research experience or clinical experience in HIV and sexual health, preferably in the NHS. You will need to meet the challenge of working autonomously and within a team; and participate in the running of existing clinical research trials and in the setting up of new research studies.

Main duties of the job
As a Research Nurse you will be responsible for working on the delivery of specialized, patient focused, evidence based, and protocol driven care, in partnership with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team. You will ensure that patient care is delivered according to best practice, Trust policies and procedures, R&D guidelines and standard operating procedures. You will be expected to adhere to appropriate regulations, principles and good clinical practice to ensure high quality research is delivered.
The role will provide regular contact with patients We undertake a range of research within the core delivery team including interventional and observational studies working with academic and pharmaceutical partners. The well-being and safety of our research patients/ participants is at the heart of all we do, as is our confidence that the data we provide is accurate and reproducible.
The posts offer the opportunity manage the research participants' care pathways within the research programme in collaboration with their clinical team and offers personal development and job satisfaction.
To be successful in this role you will need to be a level 1 Registered Nurse, applicants need to demonstrate a willingness to train for extended roles which include venepuncture and cannulation.

Qualifications
Essential
- *Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register
- *Relevant degree or equivalent in nursing
Desirable
- *Health care management / leadership qualification.
Experience
Essential
- *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- *Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
- *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
- *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
- *Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
