Job summary
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Physiotherapist with highly developed specialist assessment skills as part of an integrated therapy team on the Acute Medical Unit at GRH.
The post will require leadership skills to support and manage the therapy team working alongside the Band 7 clinical lead/clinical specialist OT/PT and rotational Band 5 and TSW staff. The caseload is variable and fast paced and will require strong organizational and prioritization skills to provide therapy assessments in a fast-paced environment. The therapy team is part of a strong multi-disciplinary team at the "front door" which can be both challenging and rewarding.
The post requires exceptional communication, advanced clinical skills and confidence in training, supporting and developing other staff. The ability to use own initiative and work well as part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team is essential.
There will be opportunities to be involved in service development initiatives and also in progressing the role of therapy in the acute trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the Clinical Lead.
The post holder is supervised by a named therapist, who may not be present at all times. Clinical and professional supervision is in the form of regular clinical reasoning sessions, observed practice, peer review and formal training.
The post holder will link with the Band 7 Clinical Lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget. The level of managerial responsibility involves the supervision and appraisal of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduates, with the support of the Band 7.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree/diploma in Physiotherapy
- Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
- Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others
Desirable
- Post graduate experience of working with respiratory patients and on call Physiotherapy service
Knowledge
Essential
- Deliver a high level of skill in assessment and management of complex patients.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, verbal, non-verbal and written when interacting with patients/carers, other team members and the MDT.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply and utilise evidence based practice, including National guidelines to deliver, evaluate and audit the service.
- Demonstrate the ability to network with other professionals and set up close working relations
- Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of the principles of physiotherapy as well as occupational therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated therapy service.
