Job summary

The Outreach Nursing Team possesses a wealth of experience in specialist palliative care, supporting children, their families and professionals involved, with advice, symptom control support and management throughout the palliative care pathway in a variety of community settings within the 6 counties of the catchment area. We are looking for a Band 7 Childrens Outreach Specialist Nurse for a 1 year fixed term maternity cover. You will need to be an autonomous practitioner with community experience and have the vision to deliver and support exceptional palliative care within a variety of settings which will make a real difference to children and their families. You will work as part of a wider team of other nurses, doctors, nursery nurses, Family Support Services and Volunteers within Helen & Douglas House as well as working collaboratively with external multi-disciplinary professionals in the childs own community and help drive our service forward. Main duties of the job

Who are we? Helen & Douglas House is a registered childrens hospice charity based in Oxford, providing palliative, respite, end-of-life and bereavement care to life-limited children and their families in Oxford and the surrounding counties. We work in partnership with parents and other multi-disciplinary professionals, providing palliative care expertise and developing clinical skills to ensure the individual needs of our patients are met.

This is a full-time 1-year fixed term maternity cover (part time hours will be considered).Pay range is £49,873 £56,920 per annum pro rata.

Job responsibilities

  • As part of the clinical teams act as a point of contact for symptom control, support and management advice for all children and young people throughout the palliative care pathway within the Helen & Douglas House catchment area.
  • To promote seamless care by working in a variety of settings, acting as a defined link between hospice, hospital and community.
  • To enhance the knowledge and skills of other health professionals across all settings.
  • With the Learning and Development Lead, contribute to the planning and provision of training and education for staff within the organisation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Child branch). Current NMC registration. Educated to degree level. Post graduate study in relevant area. Qualification in History Taking and Assessment or to be working towards achieving this within first 18 months of employment.

Desirable

  • Teaching in the workplace qualification. Palliative care qualification. Non-Medical Prescribing.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a related care setting. Post-registration experience of working with people acute health needs. Experience of working with patients and families with palliative care needs. Extensive community nursing experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with non-verbal people and or those with complex needs. Demonstrable experience of working in a related care setting other than a hospital or hospice.
