Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, motivational and flexibleOccupational Therapistto join our friendly bank team at the world-renowned Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital.
To work within the therapy department to provide additional occupational therapy assessment and rehabilitation to patients with neuro-disability on an individual and group basis according to the agreed goals and objectives of patients.
Main duties of the job
- To independently manage a designated caseload of patients with complex needs in spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions.
- To complete specialist assessments of patients to address their occupational performance & skill deficit using specialist standardised and non-standardised assessment tools.
- To work with patients, their carers/relatives to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan and participate in joint goal setting and rehabilitation planning with other team members.
- To plan and implement patient centred individual and/or group interventions, enabling the patients in areas of self-maintenance, productivity & leisure, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
- To conduct and develop rehabilitation groups, working with other members of the multi or interdisciplinary team.
- To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention and to ensure a high standard of evidence based clinical and professional practice is maintained and developed and intervention progresses to a satisfactory closure.
- To provide occupational therapy intervention at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, the patients home or other community setting if need be.
- To provide clinical specialist advice/support to the occupational therapy team and other team members as appropriate in Spinal Cord Injury management.

The person & scope
To work within the therapy department to provide additional occupational therapy assessment and rehabilitation to patients with neuro-disability on an individual and group basis according to the agreed goals and objectives of patients.
Contribute to multi-disciplinary working across the hospital and to work collaboratively with colleagues, nursing staff and other departments in the Hospital in the pursuit of providing an outstanding service and experience for patients, and to ensure effective communication with other members of the team, patients and relatives.

- To carry out home visits in liaison with other health and social care professionals to identify equipment and care needs required for discharge as appropriate.
- To provide clinical specialist advice/support to the occupational therapy team and other team members as appropriate in Spinal Cord Injury management.
- To act as a key worker for designated patients.
- To recommend and/or arrange for the provision, delivery and fit of standard specialist disability equipment frequently entailing manual effort and undertaking risk assessment for safe fitting and use.
- To participate in clinical meetings which review individual patients progress.
- To provide help and advice to patients, their families, and other carers, teaching and demonstrating relevant treatment techniques, moving, and handling and use of equipment to optimise patients functional ability and independence.
- To work within the agreed framework of this job description, your Code of Professional Conduct and CQC and other regulatory frameworks, including those relating to Patient records, risk assessment and appropriate management of risks.
