We have an exciting opportunity for Bank Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our Ward team based in Hemel Hempstead. You will join us on a bank basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive hourly rate depending on experience plus benefits.

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will include:

To deliver safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care to patients and their families within the Ambulatory Surgical Unit ward.

To work closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve/maintain an outstanding, patient-focused service.

To provide support/ education to more junior members of staff and supervise Healthcare Assistants.

About you

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Be a registered Nurse, registered with the NMC with no restrictions to practice;
  • Experienced surgical nurse with experience of supervising HCA's ideally in day surgery within the private healthcare sector;
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives/carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team;
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across professional disciplines;
  • Able to work on own initiative and flexibly across 7 days a week when required.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • NMC Registered with no restrictions to practice

Desirable

  • Mentor/teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Post registration relevant clinical course

Experience

Essential

  • Current and relevant experience as a surgical nurse
  • Experience of supervising HCAs
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Day surgery experience
  • Private healthcare experience

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • deliver a high standard of care in the area of practice
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives/carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across professional disciplines
  • Able to organise and manage own/others workload to meet care requirements within boundaries of role
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery
  • Awareness of CQC requirements
  • Awareness of clinical governance issues
  • Competent IT skills
