Job summary

Are you an experienced Children's Nurse looking for a new challenge? This is an exciting post working within an award winning team with excellent staff survey results.

The role requires case managing, caring for children with a chronic or acute nursing need outside of the hospital environment, working within a nurse led team. It is an opportunity to share your ideas and improve patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The service is open 9-5 seven days a week. This role is part time offering 15 hours per week, with some weekend and bank holiday working required.

We are looking for a registered children's nurse who is motivated, forward thinking and has a sound professional knowledge and excellent communication skills. You should have the ability to prioritize and work both independently and as part of a team.

In this post you will provide highly skilled, quality clinical and non-clinical care, which is outcome focused, to support children and their families, to enable them to live, participate and achieve in all aspects of life, eg at home and within their community. The workload is varied and interesting with opportunity to develop further knowledge and skills.

You will also be responsible for providing support to junior team members through developing their skills & completing staff appraisals.

You will also teach parents, carers and other health professionals as required and will mentor pre and post registered students. In return you will work within a highly supportive nurse-led service with the opportunity to expand your knowledge and work closely with clinical nurse specialists, gain management experience and work collaboratively with the pediatricians to plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • RSCN/RN (Child)
  • Full NMC Registration
  • Relevant community qualification

Desirable

  • Specialist qualification e.g. diabetic course, asthma diploma, oncology course

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to implement and use a model of child health nursing care in the community
  • Ability to support staff in planning and delivering care
  • Ability to identify deficits in the quality of care and take appropriate action
  • Ability to raise and discuss issues within the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Able to distinguish between professional roles as required e.g. CCN/HV/School Nurse
  • Ability to write and formulate policies
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to ensure accurate and detailed documentation is maintained at all times
  • Ability to input and retrieve information from IT systems
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressed, anxious parents and children (and other carers)
