Job summary

Job Overview

To be responsible for the read coding of relevant information into the patients electronic healthcare records on SystmOne clinical system, adhering to the practice coding policy.

In addition, the post-holder will also support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the practice.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the clinical coder. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Accurately read-coding data on SystmOne into the patient record

b. Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed actions

c. Input and extract data as required to support practice reports

d. File and store records as required

e. Photocopy documentation as required

f. Action all incoming emails and mail in a timely manner

g. Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records

h. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

k. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

l. Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the clinical coder may be requested to:

a. Review and update the practice coding policy as required (in conjunction with the Practice Manager)

c. Support reception staff, providing cover during staff absences

d. Book appointments, if action is required within the document

e. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

About us

We are a successful and cohesive team of 2 GP partners, 5 salaried GP and 4 prescribing ANPs with 10,500 patients. We also have an experienced pharmacist, pharmacy technician, extended scope physiotherapist, an active social prescriber and a bereavement advisor. All supported by a growing administrative team providing support in alleviating the administrative tasks of general practice.

We are situated East of Plymouth in Plymstock so perfectly situated to explore both Dartmoor and the sea and the area feeds into excellent primary and secondary schools.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good knowledge of medical terminology
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • IT literate Word & Excel

Desirable

  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
  • 2 years experience of working in a Primary Care setting.
  • Experience of using a clinical IT system.

Experience

  • Knowledge of the NHS and other key agencies providing care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to provide information in different formats
