Job summary

The Practice Development Team at UHCW has a wide and varied scope including supporting the Trust's successful Pathway to Excellence journey, the Internationally Educated Nurse OSCE programme, our well-established preceptorship programme, the Professional Nurse Advocate role, the induction and ongoing development of our Healthcare Support Worker workforce, and supporting the continuing professional development of our current nursing and AHP workforce. To continue to support these workstreams, we are seeking to recruit a full time Band 6 Clinical Education Facilitator.

Practice Development are an established team with a robust support infrastructure, managed by a senior nursing team under the direction of the Practice Development Lead and Associate Director of Nursing for Education and Research.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the PDT Practice Facilitators, the post holder will have responsibilities which include, but are not limited to:

  1. Delivery of the Internationally Educated Nurse OSCE programme alongside other Band 6 CEF's
  2. Supporting internationally educated nurses, who are undertaking or who have recently completed the OSCE programme, in clinical practice - this will include working alongside them in clinical areas, assisting in assessment of clinical skills, providing support and education to the clinical teams where the IEN's are based etc.
  3. Supporting newly-qualified registered nurses and nursing associates who are undertaking the Trust Preceptorship programme - this includes visiting Preceptees in practice, working alongside them in clinical areas, assisting in assessment of clinical skills and supporting Preceptors and Ward Managers with performance related issues including development plans and capability processes
  4. Delivery of Continuing Professional Development training e.g. IV Drug administration, Venepuncture, Cannulation, etc.
  5. Supporting the delivery of the team's wider portfolio which includes the Registered Nurse Development Programme, the Acute Illness Management Course, the Professional Nurse Advocate role, Volunteer development, the Time to Care induction and development programme for Health Care Support Workers, and the DAISY award programme
  6. Supporting the Trust by working clinically in varied clinical settings when the need arises due to operational pressures

Job responsibilities

  • Act in accordance with NMC Code and be accountable for own practice and professional actions at all times.
  • Contribute to the development of the roles of nurses, midwives, nursing associates in the best interests of patients and these professions in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • Maintain an identifiable clinical presence, and when occasion requires, work in practice undertaking relevant clinical activities to support teams, maintain own clinical competency and to support staff in developing clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate clinical practice expertise through personal practice, lead by example and facilitate the overseas OSCE programme to include face to face teaching, lesson planning, delivery according to NMC requirements and supporting in clinical practice.
  • Act as a clinical and professional role model for effective clinical leadership enabling and facilitating others to take forward initiatives.
  • Liaise with the Associate Directors of Nursing, Group Directors of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, Practice Facilitators, Modern Matrons, Ward/Department Managers to identify the development and training requirements of nursing, midwifery, nursing associate andhealthcare support staff within designated clinical areas according to service requirements and individual needs.
  • Assist in the delivery of training and development programmes and study days for staff and learners in practice.
  • Work collaboratively with other professional groups to maximise development opportunities and inter professional learning opportunities
  • Assist the Practice Facilitators and other stakeholders in the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and audit of nursing, midwifery and nursing associate policies, protocols, guidelines and standards ensuring that they meet current practice and professional regulations.
  • Ensure that quality standards are set and monitored against internal and external bench marking processes and that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of practice developments.
  • Act as a resource for staff to access and raise awareness of national and local policies that will impact upon clinical practice and influence the delivery of patient care.
  • Understand key governance requirements relating to nurses, midwives and nursing associates and support
