Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic midwife to join the Education Team as the Band 7 Clinical Educator lead .

The post holder will provide learning, education and support which enables midwives, support staff, multidisciplinary team members and students to develop their practice, enhance the safety and experience ofwomen and their families and support the development of others.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead on the planning, developing, organisation and delivery of maternity mandatory training within maternity which includes midwives, nurses, medical staff, maternity care assistants, maternity support workers, theatre staff and nursery nurses, liaising with specialist midwives, the multi-disciplinary team, risk team and Head of Midwifery where necessary.

Design and deliver training sessions and comprehensive presentations to staff and students across the Trust, promoting evidence-based practice and assisting in the development of new and improved practices.

Evaluate the content, methods of delivery and impact of the education and training programmes to ensure delivered content meets our maternity service needs, individual staff requirements and National reports and agenda such as the Core Competency Framework as outlined by NHS England and informs subsequent education sessions.

Support Specialist Midwives and trainers to incorporate a range of diverse teaching techniques and learning approaches into their training sessions, in order to maximise quality and effectiveness of the knowledge they are departing.

Keep accurate records of training and provide data for training compliance to demonstrate compliance with the Maternity Incentive Scheme.

Monitor compliance of attendance and completion of mandatory training and feed this information into the quarterly quality assurance report.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the NMC as a registered Midwife
  • Midwifery degree
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation

Desirable

  • Newborn Infant Physical Examiner

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post midwifery qualification experience
  • Previous experience of training and education
  • Midwifery mentor (pre 2018) or Practice Supervisor & Practice Assessor qualification
  • Previous experience of leading a project or change initiative

Skills

Essential

  • Acts as a role model and can lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
  • Able to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice.
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
