Main duties of the job

About the Role

As theBreast CNS, you will manage and support the breast nursing team, including:

  • TheBreast Care Navigator
  • ThePerson-Centred Follow-Up Coordinator
  • TheCNS for Metastatic Breast Disease

You will take on an advanced clinical role, managingnurse-led clinics and providing expert care across the breast cancer pathway. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and develop breast services while ensuring the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Management: Lead, support, and develop the breast nursing team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Advanced Clinical Practice: Manage and develop established nurse-led clinics, ensuring evidence-based, high-quality care.
  • Patient Support & Education: Provide expert guidance and holistic support to patients at all stages of their breast cancer journey.
  • Service Development: Drive innovation in breast cancer nursing, contributing to service improvement initiatives.
  • Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work closely with consultants, oncologists, radiologists, and allied health professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
  • Educated to degree level
  • Appropriate NMC registration
  • Advanced assessment course or willingness to undertake within an agreed timeframe
  • Post registration teaching and assessing qualification
  • Educated to or working towards master's level qualifications

Knowledge

Essential

  • Physical assessment, diagnostic and reasoning skills
  • Advanced interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify learning and development needs
  • Understands and applies principles of learning in practice
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Ability to manage difficult situations effectively

Desirable

  • Independent prescribing or a willingness to undertake within an agreed timeframe

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post registration experience at band 7 level
  • Experience within speciality
  • Recent clinical experience managing own independent clinics (preferably cancer clinics)
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary workforce
  • Evidence of ability to prepare, write and present reports
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the development of nurses and nursing practice
  • Evidence of having undertaken relevant further study or training as required for the post
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of governance processes
  • An update knowledge and good understanding of current issues in healthcare
  • Works in line with the regulatory framework within the NHS
  • Evidence of the relevant higher level practice skills associated with the role if required
