Clinical Nurse Specialist - Rheumatology
The Rheumatology Team have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team working to improve the safety, experience and outcomes for patients in Royal Berkshire Hospital. This post offers the opportunity to have a real impact on the independence and confidence in patients in Royal Berkshire. A passion for admission prevention is a must for this position.
We are looking for:
- An individual who is confident in teaching colleagues/patients. Sharing knowledge with patient's and colleagues is an important part of the job, so confidence and good interpersonal skills are key.
- Someone who is interested in continuing their learning and willing to work towards History taking and Prescribing. A candidate who is committed to staying up to date on research/guidelines.
- A candidate who has a high standard of spoken and written English. Experience in working with audits and research would be desirable.
Main duties of the job
The CNS will be able to direct and support staff in their clinical roles to promote a service which prevent unnecessary or unscheduled hospital admissions. They will also be responsible for all aspects of the leadership, development and management of the rheumatology nurses.
They will be managing the rheumatology service remote monitoring (DAWN), telephone and face to face clinic.
They will initiate patient education, training and telephone advice.
They will be proactive in promoting a positive image of Rheumatology department working closely with the organisation, integrated teams, key stakeholders and partners. They will promote a service which works within local and national directives.

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications/ Training:
Essential
- Registered Nurse at Degree level
- Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area/ evidence of recent appropriate experience.
- History taking/Nurse Prescribing Course/ Willingness to undertake
- Ability to present, train and demonstrate to large group.
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex information from patient assessment and interventions, and freedom to act in managing patients' care
Desirable
- Ability to deliver Minor Ops and systemic monitoring clinics
- Studied at Master level or demonstrate willingness to undertake
Experience:
Essential
- Experience in Biologic medication and blood monitoring
- Understand budgeting and procurement
- Experience in face to face and telephone patient consultation
- Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
- Significant post registration experience at Band 6 level
Desirable
- Understand costing, funding and Blue-teq
- Experience of developing and implementing policies and protocols
Communication
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
- Ability to provide clear, complete, accurate, relevant, up-to date, timely and legible reports/letters in according to Record Management
- Ability to present evidence base research to group of clinicians
- Computer Literate and efficient
