Clinical Teaching Fellow in General Medicine (ST3+ equivalent)

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust are excited to invite applications for a Clinical Teaching Fellow who will support the teaching of undergraduate medical students. Post holders will be funded to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.

The post will suit a motivated medical registrar who would like to develop their knowledge and experience in the field of medical education. It is open to all but may be of particular interest to those wishing to gain both teaching and clinical experience before applying to higher specialty training, or those wishing to take a year out-of-programme (please ensure eligibility for OOP before applying).

The job will combine clinical work (ward based medical registrar with associated on-call commitments) and protected time for teaching. The split of daytime clinical and teaching duties will be 60/40.

This 12-month post is advertised as full-time but candidates wishing to work part-time or job share are encouraged to apply. Modification of the job content will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop own knowledge and experience in medical education
  • To contribute to the development of our undergraduate teaching programme for medical students
  • To teach and support medical students to meet the learning objectives of their clinical placements at HDFT
  • To work as part of a team (ST3+ level) to deliver inpatient medical care and care out-of-hours
  • To maintain a high professional standard and actively participate in matters concerning patient safety and Clinical Governance

  • To work alongside our undergraduate tutors to teach and support undergraduate medical students, during their clinical placements at HDFT.
  • 40% of daytime protected for teaching activities.
  • To undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education if desired

Experience

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC at time of application
  • Primary medical qualification, MBBS or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of IMT/ACCS or equivalent experience
  • Keen interest to develop knowledge and experience in medical education.
  • Previous experience working in the NHS

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Teaching experience
