Bristol Clinical Teaching Fellow - General Medicine
This post is for aClinical Teaching Fellow in General Medicine at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. The position will run from 6th August 2025 to 4th August 2026.
This combined clinical and teaching post is ideal for individuals who have completed an F2 year (or equivalent) and wish to gain formal experience in undergraduate teaching and clinical medicine before beginning Core Training. The role is split equally between clinical duties and teaching Bristol medical students. The post holder will be encouraged to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, funded by the Academy.
There is a strong emphasis on providing high-quality tuition to students from Bristol University Medical School nd offering the best possible educational supervision to trainees. The Clinical Teaching Fellow team consists of 11 posts across various specialties, including ENT, Medicine, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Critical Care, Paediatrics, O&G and General Surgery and a 100% education post. This provides an excellent opportunity for cross-specialty collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Main duties of the job
To work 50/50 split between clinical work in medicine and undergraduate medical education.
To gain experience in general Medicine and encouraged to keep an up-to-date portfolio for ST applications. Interview practise and help with the portfolio is available, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to take part in audit and other projects.
This is not a recognised training post but provides an excellent opportunity to develop teaching and clinical skills as well as portfolio preparation. You will be fully supported to develop your portfolio, interview skills etc.
The post holders will help facilitate the delivery of the University of Bristol undergraduate curriculum to year 3, 4 & 5 medical students at Musgrove Park Hospital.
- Clinical teaching fellows (CTFs) deliver core curriculum content, act as tutors and are involved with the assessment of medical students.
- The post holder will be expected to act as a role model and mentor to the medical students.
- The post holder will help develop teaching materials.
- Clinical teaching fellow are expected to be able to deliver several types of teaching including induction sessions, small group tutorials, clinical-based history and examination sessions, facilitation of inter-Academy Hub sessions, Bedside teaching, Teaching clinics, Clinical reasoning skills and simulation based teaching.

Job responsibilities
On average you will alternate weeks between teaching Bristol Medical Students and clinical.
The clinical half of these posts will be based in General medicine.

- GMC registration of adequate duration

- BSc, BA or equivalent with grade 1 or 2:1
Experience
