We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our modern hospital at Emerson's Green, Bristol. You will join our small team of dedicated clinicians striving for excellence in an efficient unit whose main workload is Orthopaedics but also includes General Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT and Urology.

As a our Consultant, you will have pride in the quality of your work, be well versed and involved in clinical governance, audit and be a good team player who is ready to be flexible and willing to meet the needs of the service and colleagues.

We are accepting full time and part-time applications.

Our Full-time Consultants work a 4-day week of 10 hrs per day in line with a normal 10PA job plan, there are opportunities for additional work in the week and financial incentives, above this, for efficient lists. The on-call is light and covered between the team and mainly based on advice to the Resident Medical Officer. Support PAs are built into the job plan in addition to the monthly governance meetings.

Main duties of the job

As our Consultant Anaesthetist, you will provide a wide range of anaesthetic cover -the main specialities covered include Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology. Ophthalmology, ENT and Urology in the first instance. This will be on an elective basis except where a postoperative patient requires a return to theatre.

In addition to the clinical duties, you will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of your patients and with the running of the Department. You will be responsible for producing the appropriate clinical records for each patient. You will work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.

Job responsibilities

The post holders will be required to perform a range of anaesthetic procedures, on patients referred to the treatment centre, working in accordance with hospital protocols and working practices.

The post holder will be required to have completed a substantial number of procedures identified above independently. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in theatre.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate commitment to excellent teamwork with clinical colleagues, willingness to utilise and develop clinical care pathways in the overall management of patients and assist in improving these pathways over time, and a very positive attitude to dealing with patients.

The post holder will be required to build on close relations with other surgical colleagues as part of our multidisciplinary team. He/She will also be required to participate in audit, research and management of the service.

It is anticipated that the post holder will engage in specific management tasks and contribute to monthly departmental meetings and treatment centre in agreement with the Medical Director.

It is likely the post holder will be providing responsibility for the clinical supervision directly of junior medical and/or other clinical staff.

The post holder will be possibly be allocated responsibility for the management of specific consultant staff.

Qualifications

Essential

  • UK registered Medical Degree.
  • Past record of FRCA academic achievement
  • Full and Specialist GMC Registration in relevant speciality.

Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • Intensive Care accreditation
  • Teaching qualification
  • Experience in training medical trainees and other professionals

Experience

Essential
