Consultant Gastroenterologist- Substantive
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our diverse, friendly and proactive Gastroenterology Team. The post-holder will work primarily with the Gastroenterology team at Harrogate District Hospital and enjoy being in a team renowned, for their approachable and friendly nature, having a combined Consultant experience in excess of 40 years and delivering a high standard of care in all aspects of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy. The post holder will be well supported during the early years of their Consultant careers, encouraged to be proactive with service development and practice their medical and endoscopy skills to their fullest potential. Gastroenterology is supported by an efficient and sound management team, with a clear forward vision.

Main duties of the job
The successful colleague will work as part of the Gastroenterology team, who offer high quality, safe and efficient care to the population of Harrogate and District and have close and excellent working relationships with our local GPs.The successful colleague will join a team of 4 Consultants, based at Harrogate District Hospital and will be part of a team delivering a high quality, rapidly developing service which prides itself on team working and close collaboration with MDT colleagues. The successful colleague will be providing gastroenterology service in an in-patient setting, outpatient setting and contributing to the OOH acute UGI bleed rota. The successful colleague will have the full support of the team , in developing new areas of expertise/skill in endoscopy. The team prides in being educators and the successful applicant will be encouraged to train medical and non-medical staff where needed.

Harrogate tops a recent small trust research league table, and research interests are supported by a team of dedicated research nurses.
The Trust has an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre which carries a full programme of events including and offers access to a Medical Library and a Clinical Skills Lab with high fidelity simulation facilities. The post is non-training; however, opportunities for development will be available.
Job responsibilities
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
- To work flexibly to cover the needs of the Departments
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- Work as part of the team to support and help to provide a comprehensive medical service within the Trust.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Proficiency in endoscopy and GI bleeding therapy
- Understanding of all aspects of Gastroenterology medicine including Endoscopy
Desirable
- 5 years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
- Nutrition experience
Qualifications
Essential
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of CCT at the time of interview
- Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent
Desirable
- Completed Fellowship Programme
- ALS
