This is an exciting opportunity to join the Chemical Pathology /Metabolic Medicine department at one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and skilled individual who is passionate about delivering high quality care within Chemical Pathology. The successful candidate will play an important role in delivering the chemical pathology and metabolic medicine service. UHB is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Consultant Chemical Pathologist with or without Metabolic Medicine to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham. The post presents an exciting opportunity to practice lipid/metabolic medicine across one of largest Trusts in England which includes tertiary and secondary care services and serves a diverse population of approximately 2 million people.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the other staff, the post holder will have responsibility for providing a comprehensive Consultant clinical advisory, analytical and scientific service in Clinical Biochemistry to medical and nursing staff within the Trust, and to General Practitioners and the wider health economy, for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients. In addition, the post holder will provide direct clinical care to patients for outpatients and day-cases and will take part in the on-call rota on a 1:5 basis

Although this is primarily a clinical post, the consultant will be encouraged to develop research interests. The Trust works very closely with the University of Birmingham to foster collaboration and there are existing links with established research teams in Birmingham and Aston Universities.

The department is involved in a broad range of research activities and there will be opportunities for the post holder to contribute to research.

This is a full-time post (10.0 PAs) consultant post but we are happy for candidates who are unable for personal reasons to work full time to apply for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues

*The post holder must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to deal effectively with clinicians from all disciplines, managers, and professionals both within and outside The Trust.
