Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia

Job Description
Job summary
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Manchester and Salford Pain Centre (MSPC), part of Salford Royal Hospital, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), as a full-time Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthetics.
The successful applicant will join an existing team of anaesthetists providing anaesthetic at Salford Royal Hospital as well as five Consultant colleagues in the Pain Centre, which provides comprehensive pain management services to Salford, Greater Manchester and the North West.
The Pain Centre was one of the first to be established in the UK, and is now located in a purpose built pain centre, that opened in 2009. The fully integrated and interdisciplinary team includes Medics, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Nurses and Admin staff.
The MSPC has provided pain management in Salford for 60 years, and is housed in a stand-alone centre complete with its own clinical, library and seminar room within Salford Royal Hospital. The Centre is focused on multi-disciplinary working to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. The role covers all aspects of Pain Management, including acute and chronic pain. The post will be split across Pain Management and Anaesthetics, although applications will be considered for those only interested in Pain Management. Individuals wishing to be a part of the Anaesthetic on call rota will need to obtain ATLS or equivalent prior to starting on the on-call rota.
Main duties of the job
The proposed planned activities (PA)'s are:
Direct Clinical Care - 8 PA's on average per week. These are split between anaesthesia - 4 sessions (including on-call) and pain management - up to 4sessions. Both areas of clinical work depend strongly on multiprofessional and interspecialty liaison.
Supporting Professional Activities - 2 PA's on average a week.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their clinical directors, on behalf of the medical director.
Candidates who are unable, for personal reasons, to work full time are eligible to apply and, if successful, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
The successful candidate will join a rota for the provision of general and emergency Anaesthetic services out of hours. The on-call rostering allows two consultants to cover weekends, bank holidays and weekday nights, with one first on, and one second-on. The on-call rota will be managed in accordance with the Trust's policy on working time directive.
There is a 24hr emergency NCEPOD general theatre with separate daytime scheduled weekday lists in operation (typical cycle - week 1 fixed list and week 2 flexible list).
Additional remunerated sessions are possible by negotiation.
