The Eating Disorder Service in Suffolk is split over two bases with an expectation that some resources are shared across the whole region. This Consultant post in the East will offer, when needed, consultation and cover to the teams in West Suffolk.

The service receives referrals from GP and other wider agencies. Assessments are carried out by the Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs) with involvement from the Consultant if required for specific clinical reasons. Cases taken on by the team are then co-ordinated by the MHP's with input from other members of the team including the Consultant as required. The Consultant is not expected to carry a caseload themselves but to provide specialist medical support to the team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be appointed as a senior professional to provide advanced professional expertise and clinical leadership. As such, the post holder is always expected to conduct him/herself in such a manner as to be demonstrably helping the Trust to deliver its strategic and business objectives, and to act as an ambassador at the interface with external partners and stakeholders. At no time must the post holder bring the Trust into disrepute.

Additionally, the post-holder, as is expected from the holder of a senior public position, must always comply fully with the Nolan Principles and the Standards of Business Conduct.

The post holder is being appointed to a post of clinical leadership and will, therefore, be expected to have, and to demonstrate, leadership qualities as set out in the Medical Leadership Competency Framework (NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges).
