Job summary

Swansea Bay University Health Board is looking to recruit two Deputy Heads of Nursing to work within their Theatre, Pre-assessment and Acute pain team. You will be passionate about patient care, values driven, ambitious with great leadership skills and is dedicated to innovation and transformation. The post holders will be responsible for Theatre services across the three sites, Morriston, Neath Port Talbot and Singleton.

The quality of the Health Boards clinical care and the safety of its patients are fundamental to its excellence and the Deputy Head of Nursing is a key role, providing leadership, and professional support across a defined Division within the Service Group and will direct, lead and motivate nursing staff across the Regional to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficient and effective service delivery, and that activity is fully aligned to the Service Group and Health Boards plans, strategies and values and behaviour framework.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Head of Nursing will:

Direct, lead and motivate nursing staff across the Regional to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficient and effective service delivery.

Work within policy and professional guidelines, interpreting these to inform local policy and development and to improve practice. .

Responsible for the development, delivery and monitoring of the nursing and quality strategies, focusing on person-centred approaches to care to deliver a nursing service that prioritise the care needs of patients and embodies the principles of prudent healthcare.

Enable the effective delivery of services within the PCT Group which reflect stakeholder influence and will participate in strategic planning for service provision to ensure they fit within the Service Group plans.

Play a key role in communicating effectively and establishing good working relations with a wide range of people, ensuring that the Service Group and Health Board aims and objectives, policies and procedures are clearly conveyed.

Working in conjunction with the Head of Nursing and Group Nurse Director, the post holder will as required, participate in Service Group wide projects to develop new ways of working which are aligned with integration of services across health and social care as outlined in the integrated business plan and Health Board strategies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Level 1 (Active NMC Registration)
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Educated to degree level / relevant masters degree

Desirable

  • Improving Quality Together - Silver IQT

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Experience of clinical leadership at a senior management level.
  • Financial management experience including evidence of delivery within budgets and time scales.
  • Direct experience of major service and organisation change.
  • Proven track record in practice development.
  • Experience of leading and managing service development and evidence of achieving improvement
  • Knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional practice, compliance, standards and the wider NHS

Essential Aptitude and abilities

  • Can demonstrate SBU values
  • Ability to demonstrate in everyday work, organisational values and role models person centred approaches to care.
