Job summary
We are recruiting a Duty Nurse manager to join our nursing team at The Princess Grace Hospital currently rated Good by the CQC.
The Duty Nurse Manager team are an integral part of the operational running of the hospital, responsible for running the in and out of hours challenges an acute hospital provides.
This role requires a strong leadership background, excellent communication, experience in key decision making, risk management, problem solving and good governance understanding.
The Duty Manager will work closely with the Matron & Chief Nursing Officer to support visible leadership at the Princess Grace Hospital.
The Duty Nurse Manager is responsible for the safe and effective running of the site 24/7 and holds a range of responsibilities including coordinating flow to our inpatient wards, responding to Major Incident situations/alerts, holding nominated Officer of Fire responsibility, out of hours and providing senior support to all units.
Main duties of the job
- Provide senior nursing support and professional and clinical advice to all areas within the site and associated outpatient facilities.
- Act as first point of call for wards/departments during the out-of-hours period, liaising with the senior managers on call as appropriate.
- To act as the hospital manager and ensure the safe and effective management of hospital systems and services
- Responsible for effective patient flow; both unscheduled and scheduled admissions
- Work in conjunction with the Urgent Care Centre, Acute Assessment Units and other members of the Patient Flow Team
- To undertake the lead in the hospitals emergency plans for fire, cardiac arrest, major incident etc.
- Collaborate with relevant departmental heads when hospitals operational facilities are / or have the potential to be adversely affected.
- To ensure that each emergency admission is correctly assessed before admission
- Work towards an effective risk sensitive solution to the issue.
- Be a highly visible role model to all staff within The Hospital.
- Clinical review of all patients with NEWS > 3, or new increase in NEWS score
- To liaise in a professional manner with internal and external customers
- Ability to cope with, manage and diffuse difficult and stressful situations and work effectively under pressure

Consultants, Resident Doctors, Matron Team, Ward Managers, Nurse In Charge, Nursing staff, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Practice Facilitators, Senior Management Team, Executive Team, Allied Healthcare professionals, Accounts, Business Office, Hotel Services, Concierge, Radiology and Duty Nurse Managers across sites.
JOB SUMMARY
o The post holder will hold responsibility as shift clinical Duty Nurse Manager for services within The Princess Grace Hospital and associated outpatient facilities.
o The post holder will be responsible of the management of beds, patient flow, security, staffing issues, safeguarding and supporting the Ward Managers and departments in delivering quality, effective individualised care.
o The post holder will be visibly present in the hospital to provide support to all members of staff, patients and visitors; and to ensure seamless and effective leadership.
o The post holder will ensure optimal safety standards and high quality of clinical care are upheld with the support from the department Matrons.
o The post holder will be responsible for the planning and organization of a range of complex activities. These include response to emergencies such as fire, cardiac arrest, security issues and clinical incidences. They will act as hospital Fire Controller and Marshal for any untoward event or major incident within the hospital. He / She will lead Medical Emergency Team huddle for each shift and will take an active role in all emergencies within the hospital.
o The role combines advanced practice skills and management, clinically coordinating the hospital site and balancing competing priorities to make the best use of available resources.
o Daily rounding of all VIP patients, supporting Matrons and Ward Managers with senior nurse rounding.
o Support outreach rounding of ITU stepdown patients, patients with potential to deteriorate. Clinical co-ordination of unplanned medical admissions, including a clinical review of patients on arrival and ensuring the one hour pathway for acute medical patients commences on arrival or at the point the consultant accepts the admission (for patients in UCC).
o Clinical review of all patients with NEWS > 3, or new increase in NEWS score.
o The post holder is responsible and accountable for their own practice within the clinical area and for delivering a quality service to all stakeholders within The Princess Grace Hospital.
o Work independently to support our patients, Consultants, nursing teams and Allied Health Professionals within their defined scope of practice.
o Represent The Princess Grace Hospital and HCA Healthcare UK to external agencies.
o To support the implementation of new services within The Princess Grace Hospital.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

ALS qualified (ILS acceptable but will be expected to complete ALS)
