Job summary

The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and flexible Maintenance Electrician to join our multi-Skilled Estates team at Mile End Hospital site providing operational maintenance services throughout the Trust and its associated properties and sites.

You will be a keen team member with a recognised building services electrical apprenticeship or equivalent and have post qualification experience with in a complex building services environment. Duties will include statutory maintenance works as instructed to ensure compliance with current HTM's, Electrical Regulations, ACOP's and Trust policies.

To undertake duties of a Competent Person (CP) in accordance with the relevant NHS HTM Guidance.

Also to maintain and repair of Electrical Generators, refrigeration equipment, electrical distribution systems, air conditioning, air handling plant etc..

Applicants should have a good all round ability and be capable of working on their own initiative to undertake planned preventative and reactive maintenance and specialist engineering duties.

This position will require you to participate in the Estates emergency on-call rota which includes out of hours working at all Barts Health Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible as the electrical craftsperson within the in-house electrical maintenance team and to liaise and or coordinate directly with electrical contractors in the day to day running of the Estates service delivery within the Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estates within Barts Health Estates & Facilities Services.

Under direction of the Senior Electrical Craftsperson, Estates Supervisor and or Estates Manager ensure all buildings; plant and equipment are electrically serviced and maintained throughout Mile End Hospital and or Royal London Hospital Retained Estate in accordance with Statutory & Mandatory requirements in a timely manner. Including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance (RM), minor works, major overhauls and replacement. In addition, the Electrical Craftsperson will be required to be a self-starter who is able to work on his/her own initiative.

Qualifications

Essential

  • To have served a recognised mechanical or any other building services City & Guild/NVQ level 2/3 standard or equivalent apprenticeship or other training to a certified and recognised qualification.
  • Qualified C&G 18th Edition Certificate Requirements. As defined by the latest edition of the Electrical Safety Code for Low Voltage Systems for Competent Person (CP).

Desirable

  • C&G 2391 Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of lone working.
  • Experience of undertaking planned and reactive work
  • Experience of building maintenance and systems.
  • Experience to follow detailed engineering/electrical drawings and specification.

Desirable

  • In depth experience of healthcare electrical building services and to lead on the maintenance of the electrical team.
  • Experience of successfully working with an electrical team and contractors to meet agreed outcomes.
  • Experience of working on specialist hospital equipment.

Knowledge

Essential

  • A good working knowledge of Health & Safety principles within electrical engineering and building systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical maintenance to meet relevant HTM 06.01 and HTM 06.02 standards
  • Knowledge of building & engineering materials and methods.

Desirable

  • Detailed working knowledge of preventative and reactive electrical maintenance and associated HTM.
  • Knowledge of information systems for the management of maintenance activity (Concept CAFM System).
  • A good understanding of Health and Safety Legislation.
