The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is excited to announce an opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Estates Manager Decontamination Lead (Mechanical).

The successful candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering and a deep understanding of medical device decontamination. They must also be capable of leading a team and managing complex maintenance operations.

The role demands a person who can adapt and be flexible to changing circumstances and be available outside of standard working hours.In a healthcare setting, where critical systems must operate 24/7, this requirement is essential to ensure patient safety and operational continuity.

Qualifications:

    • Recognised Apprenticeship Degree or HND (Higher National Diploma) in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline.
    • Recognised management qualification/endorsements (NEBS, NVQ, CMI Diploma).

Experience:

    • Relevant experience as a Certified Decontamination Test Person, specifically in HTM 01 service.
    • Proven experience in the maintenance and validation of medical device decontamination equipment (as defined in the HTM 01 series).
    • Supervisory or Team Leader experience.
    • Experience working with and maintaining electronic systems.

Main duties of the job

Role Summary

    • This position combines estates management with a highly specialised focus on decontamination equipment.
    • The role requires strong mechanical engineering knowledge, coupled with expertise in decontamination processes.

Team Leadership:

    • Managing a team of Decontamination Specialist Estates Officers and Apprentices.
    • Providing leadership, training, and guidance to ensure the team delivers high-quality service.

Decontamination Equipment Management:

    • Overseeing the maintenance, testing, and validation of all medical device decontamination equipment.
    • This includes sterilisers, washer disinfectors, clean steam systems, HSDU (Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit) and CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) plant/equipment, pathology autoclaves, and associated engineering systems.

Compliance and Standards:

    • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards (particularly HTM 01), and trust policies.
    • Working with and maintaining electronic systems.

Job responsibilities

To manage the Decontamination Service Specialist Team and the site based building and engineering team.

To undertake performance and development appraisals for members of the Decontamination Estates Specialist team.

Take a lead role as senior test person for decontamination equipment.

The postholder will liaise with external agencies such as Authorised Persons, training establishments, manufacturers, suppliers and Government Agencies.

The postholder will provide advice to trust officers relating to a safe, efficient, reliable and cost effective maintenance system of all decontamination equipment, associated specialist equipment/plant and accommodation, HSDU and CSSD equipment/services.

The postholder will carry out planned maintenance, breakdown repair service, testing and validation on all medical device decontamination equipment as listed above to ensure medicals devices for invasive procedures are decontaminated in compliance with all statutory guidance, best practice and Trust protocols.

The postholder will ensure delivery of relevant associated contracted and planned preventative maintenance, repairs, testing and validation requirements of all the Retained Estates building and engineering services associated with the Pinderfields, Pontefract and off site Intermediate Care facilities.

The postholder is responsible for ensuring value for money for the Decontamination Team Service and the Building and Engineering Maintenance Service managing delegated financial resources.
