Job summary
Walton Medical Centre are currently looking to recruit an organised GP assistant to join a growing team on a full-time basis.
This is a post developed to deliver better outcomes for patients by supporting GPs within appointments and with necessary paperwork. We would welcome applications from organised, adaptable and friendly individuals who are keen to help us provide high levels of customer service.
Main duties of the job
- Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions.
- Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
- Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
- Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy.
- Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
You should also be able to deal with patient and hospital queries, and complete surgery specific duties such as referral sending using correct referral pathways, audit and coding.

Walton Medical Practice is situated in the traditional seaside resort of Walton on the Naze, on the Essex Coast. They have a list size of just over 8300 patients. As well as 2 Partners and 2 salaried GPs, the practice team also includes a pharmacy technician, paramedic, a nursing team of 10 and an efficient and effective reception and administrative team of 18.
The Colte Partnership is a GP super-partnership, formed in June 2017. It brought together 8 local GP surgeries across Colchester and Tendring, serving approx. 80,000 patients. With the combined workforce, skills and knowledge, we are in a unique position to assist our patients across the county.
As well as General Practice, we offer Extended Access appointments to enable all of our patients to access medical care at evening and weekends; we work collaboratively with external agencies to provide in home services and Social Prescribing; we are working to be at the forefront of clinical research; and have many more exciting ventures on the horizon.
