Job Summary
Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of an exciting transformation programme to develop a new model of care, addressing our ambition to deliver person-centred, coordinated care across the practice population. GP practice technicians work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, based within a GP practice, and support the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for medicines optimisation, repeat prescribing, reducing medicine waste and maximising patient outcomes.
GP practice pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a pharmacist and are registered healthcare professionals that are responsible and accountable for their own accurate and safe practice. As a GP practice pharmacy technician, you will receive ongoing training and development about all aspects of practice based prescribing and effective administration and will support the practice in providing medication reviews and achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework targets.
The Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice model is supported by the Five Year Forward View and GP Forward View to develop and utilise the role of pharmacy within primary care so it can pro-actively help patients stay safe, well and out of hospital as well as supporting efforts to reduce the demands on general practice.
Main duties of the job
- Improve patient and carer understanding of,confidence and compliance with their medication
- Provide advice and answer medication related queries from practice staff,patients and staff
- Work with the GPs to support the day-to-day tasks within general practice
- Contributing to the provision of safe and effective pharmacy services
- Undertaking medicines reconciliation in line with practice protocols and operating procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of prescriptions and repeat prescriptions
- Responding to patient questions both face to face or over the phone;referring problems or queries to the pharmacist
- Participating in patient reviews and updating of patient records via clinics in the practice,domiciliary visits and in nursing and residential care homes
- Participating in audits
- Provide advice and information to GPs,staff and patients to support the improvement of prescribing safety,quality,cost-effectiveness
- Taking responsibility for contributing to aspects of the day-to-day management of the working environment including communication,data accuracy,keeping practice areas tidy and helping to achieve a supportive,positive culture across the practice team
- To support and promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health & Safety and Infection Control policies

About us
Broadmead Surgery is a busy, friendly and fully computerised (SystmOne) practice located within Grand Union Village Health Centre in Northolt. We currently have over 7818 registered patients. We also see non-registered patients for community services such as anticoagulation, ECG etc.
Our team consists of a Lead GP Partner, Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Clinical Pharmacist, Clinical Assistant, Practice Manager, Practice Secretary, Senior Receptionist, Administrator and Receptionist Administrators.
Broadmead Surgery is one of six local GP Practices that are part of Northolt Primary Care Network (PCN). The PCN works collaboratively to provide enhanced care and services to our patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- 1. Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, mental health, or Health + Justice sectors.
- 2. Professional registration with GPhC
- 3.Relevant advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of general practice and evidence based medicine.
- 4.Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation
- 5. Computer literate with an ability to use the required GP clinical systems (desirable) and
- Microsoft office packages (essential)
Desirable
- 1. Postgraduate qualifications of a relevant nature. e.g. FdSc in Medicines
- Management/Pharmacy Services; BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Services and
- Therapeutics or Certificate of higher eduction In Pharmacy Technician Practice (desirable)
- 2.Demonstrate ability to influence and persuade partners and stakeholders of the respective
- merits of different options, innovations, new opportunities and challenges
- 3.An appreciation of the NHS agenda and government targets
- 4.Awareness of systems to support management of patients in a primary care setting, delivering
- pharmaceutical input and support in the context of pathways of care and the business of the
