Job summary
An exciting, fixed term opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Health Services Researcher to join Health Technology Wales (HTW).
HTW is responsible for the identification, appraisal and adoption of health technologies across NHS Wales, linking into national agendas for innovation and prudent healthcare. HTW is responsible for undertaking appraisals of the clinical and cost effectiveness of non-medicine health technologies in Wales, working with, but independently of, NHS Wales.
The post holder will carry out evidence reviews to inform the evidence-based use of non-medicine health technologies, and as part of HTW's wider work supporting the Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre.
The post holder will contribute their expertise as a member of the evidence review team, which involves collaborating with both internal and external research staff and supporting capacity building in NHS Wales.
This is a Fixed term /Secondment for 12 months to cover Secondment

Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out evidence reviews of varying complexity, from rapidly summarising research findings to carrying out more rigorousevidence reviews.Collaborating with subject experts and decision-making committees, the post holder will facilitate evidence-based decision making in Wales on a wide range of health and care topics.The post holder will focus on HTW's work assessing the evidence-based use of non-medicine health technologies and the post holder may also contribute to HTW's wider work for example supporting the Health and Care Research Wales Evidence Centre or other projects as directed by Welsh Government.As well as an appropriate degree and knowledge of using literature searching to identify evidence, you will have experience of critically evaluating evidence and communicating your findings to health and care stakeholders.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
- A first- or second-class Honours degree in a biomedical, scientific, numerate, or other relevant discipline.
- Postgraduate master's degree in a relevant subject such as public health, health services research, health care science, or equivalent research/clinical experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of systematic review methodologies for clinical effectiveness.
Desirable
- Research doctorate (PhD) or equivalent experience
- Project management qualification.
- Understanding of NHS Wales policy and priorities.
- A broad understanding of NHS infrastructure.
Experience
Essential
- Health services research experience in a policy environment.
- Familiarity with a range of health services research methods.
- Experience of presenting scientific information clearly to an expert and lay audience.
- Experience of producing concise written reports for different audiences.
Desirable
- Specialist experience of one or more areas of research methodology such as the statistical analysis and use of quantitative data, critical appraisal, or qualitative research.
- Experience of evaluating non-medicines technologies.
- Insight into wider clinical and ethical issues, and implications for safe and use of health technologies.
- Understanding of quality management principles and systems.
