Worcester Royal Hospital & Alexandra Hospital, Redditch

Healthcare Assistant - Band 3

Part time 8.5 hours

We require a talented and committed Band 3 HCA to work within the Worcestershire HIV outpatient service providing high quality support to patients living with HIV.

The appointed candidate will support the HIV CNS and the Consultant in effectively managing a highly complex clinical caseload. This involves prioritizing needs to ensure that an efficient service is provided. You will help support the team looking after patients undergoing assessment and treatment of HIV in the outpatient clinics across our hospital sites.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the multi-professional team supporting consultants and nurse-lead clinics. The hours will be over 2 days a week with one of the days being a Monday.

Main duties of the job

  • To accompany patients where clinical support is indicated.
  • To chaperone patients as required.
  • To undertake basic observations e.g TPR, height, weight, BMI recording results to professional staff.
  • Undertake asymptomatic sexual health screening as directed by the CNS.
  • To work within the phlebotomy service when required.
  • To respond to patient requests for non-clinical information.
  • To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies.
  • To cover reception duties and book appointments as appropriate.
  • To answer telephone calls, bleep etc. and take messages informing appropriate persons of the call or bleep received.
  • To assist in the transferring of patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate.
  • To attend to the activities of daily living needs of patients e.g. mobility, if required.
  • To report immediately to the Nurse in Charge any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Good communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of the need of confidentiality.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible working capacity.

  • Must be able to undertake manual handling activities.

Desirable

  • Keyboard, computer knowledge and skills.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant or patient care setting.
  • Previous administration experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within outpatient clinics.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic standard of education including Maths and English.
  • Care certificate or equivalent.
  • Venepuncture Certificate.
