Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiasticHealthcare Assistant (HCA)to join our friendly team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in healthcare or a desire to develop within primary care. The successful candidate will work alongside our GPs, nurses, and wider healthcare team to support patient care.

Main duties of the job

As a vital part of the clinical team, theHealthcare Assistant (HCA)supports the practice by delivering high-quality patient care under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals. The role involves assisting with both clinical and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the practice

Job responsibilities

The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Phlebotomy ( essential)

Carrying out basic health checks (blood pressure, pulse, weight, height, BMI)

Assisting with chronic disease management e.g., diabetes and hypertension reviews ( training provided)

Administering flu and other vaccinations (training provided)

Providing lifestyle advice- ( training provided)

Conducting NHS Health Checks ( training provided)

Supporting infection control and health promotion initiatives

Processing samples and maintaining clinical equipment

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Administrative tasks to support patient care ( training provided)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care
  • Care certificate

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations
  • Ability to work under pressure/in stressful situations
  • Able to communicate effectively and understand the needs of the patient
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • IT skills
  • Effective time management (planning and organising)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
  • Clear, polite telephone manner

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Clinical IT system user skills
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate - as detailed within GP Myth buster No 57 - HCAs in General Practice
