Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and enthusiastic healthcare assistant to join our highly effective and friendly practice team. This is a permanent part time position for 25 hours per week to be worked over 3-4 days Monday - Friday and may include a late night on a Wednesday till 8pm.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced healthcare assistant with at least 2 years experience in a similar role. Training will be provided for the successful candidate in any areas identified to help with continuous development.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a range of healthcare assistant duties to patients. This will include working in accordance with specific guidelines and protocols to deliver high quality care.

Daily duties will include:

  • Phlebotomy
  • BP checks
  • ECGS
  • NHS health checks
  • Chaperoning and assisting with minor surgeries

Sett Valley Medical Centre is a semi-rural 3 partner practice caring for approx. 10,000 patients, situated in the High Peak of Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, close to Stockport with excellent road and rail links to Manchester.

We are based in a purpose-built surgery, with an outstanding CQC grading, and our ethos is to deliver high-quality medical care through our comprehensive, highly skilled team members.

We have a strong and active patient participation group, and good community health care links. The surgery is paper light and uses EMIS Web.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. This may include working within the patients home environment and other clinical settings within community.

Ensure the delivery of the quality strategy within the designated area incorporating establishment of systems and processes

Key Responsibilities:

  • NHS health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • Spirometry
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Administering vaccines and injections under a patient specific directive
  • Dressings and wound care
  • Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
  • Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.

Qualifications

Essential

Experience
