Job summary
Working under the direct supervision of the General Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will:
Assist medical / nursing colleagues in the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.
Act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the primary health care team.
Actively participate in health promotion for patients and their families
The post will also include some administrative duties.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties:
Phlebotomy
Urine testing
Health promotion including primary and secondary prevention
BP/Pulse, Height, Weight, BMI
NHS health checks
To provide education and health promotion to patients as appropriate
To collect lifestyle data from patients, including smoking status, alcohol consumption and exercise
Blood pressure monitoring
To act as chaperone for other clinicians
Have a basic understanding of long-term conditions, including diagnostic interventions treatment and principles of care and self-management
To refer the patient to another clinician when appropriate
To report any observed changes in the patients condition or behaviour, or any other cause for concern
Any other tasks asked of you where appropriate
