Job summary

Siam Surgery is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with clinical responsibilities. The role is offered on a part time basis for 32 hours per week over 4 days ideally to work on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but this is negotiable.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake new patient health checks.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately,
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
  • Act as a chaperone as required.
  • Undertake venepuncture (training given).
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
  • Provide support during minor operations as required.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Vaccination certification

Experience

Essential

  • Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy.
  • Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
