Job summary

King's Medical Centre are seeking an experienced healthcare assistant to work 25 hours + per week over 5 days, including extended hours of late nights and occasional Saturday mornings.

Healthcare Assistants assist both registered nurses and GPs, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective nursing services to the whole practice population. Supported by the clinical team within the practice they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.

Responsibilities

The HCA will work collaboratively with the whole team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policies and procedures whilst managing their own workload to deliver the practice priorities. The main focus of the role is to undertake clinical activities in accordance with training and competencies.

King's Medical Centre was formed in 2018 following the merger of two local practices. Our clinical team includes 5 GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Nurse Associate, 2 Healthcare Assistants and 2 Pharmacists.

As well as this, we have a Physiotherapist, Midwife, Mental Health Practitioners and other specialist services based here.

We have a varied reception and administration team including Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, Secretary and Prescription Lead.

Job responsibilities

This is by no means an exhaustive list as the role is constantly evolving to suit the needs of Kings Medical Centre.

The main duties include:

  • ECGs
  • Phlebotomy
  • Processing of Samples e.g. Urine
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Health Promotion Checks/MOT
  • Dressings and Wound Care
  • Assistance with Minor Surgery
  • Ordering/Replenishment of medical supplies
  • Administrative Duties (following practice protocols, coding in medical records)
  • Vaccines
  • Vitamin B12 Injections
  • Chaperoning
  • Cleaning of Equipment/Work Stations
  • Adhere to Infection Control Guidance
  • Reporting of Faulty Medical Equipment
  • Training Updates as needs are identified
  • Administering First Aid
  • IT updates

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Must have previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within General Practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • All Training and Certification for a HCA within General Practice is needed.
