Job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in the Theatre Department.
Expectations to deliver a high standard of service with patient safety and quality are a priority. You should be able to demonstrate effective team working and work within our Theatre teams to deliver the highest standards of patient care and have a flexible attitude to meet service demands. Applicants with experience are desirable however, training to achieve the standards required will be given.
The recruitment, training and development of our theatre staff is pivotal in the delivery of safe, efficient, and timely patient care. We have a clear Career Pathway which clearly maps out career paths staff can take within our department. Working as part of a team you will provide exceptional care for each patient, only ever caring for one patient at a time, enabling you to ensure you are always doing your very best for every patient every time.
Our Theatre HCA's play an essential role in the smooth running of our theatres and help us maintain our exceptional levels of care. Theatre HCA's assist the wider theatre team with the safe passage of patients through the surgical pathway.

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital comprises of nine Operating Theatres covering a range of Major and Day Case Surgery including Urology, Upper GI and Bariatric, Colo-Rectal, Orthopaedic Trauma, Vascular, Ophthalmology and an Emergency CEPOD Theatre 24/7.

Knowledge
Essential
- A general understanding of a patients' holistic care needs
Qualification
Essential
- GCSE Grade A-C or equivalent in Maths and English (level 1/2 certificate)
Desirable
- NVQ level 2 in Care
- Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Skills, Clinical Healthcare Support, Health and Social Care, Healthcare Support Level 2
Experience
Essential
- Can demonstrate an understanding, through personal statement and interview, of what is required within the role of Health Care Assistant in an acute care setting
- Can describe the Trust Values and demonstrate how they put these in to practice within their caring role
Desirable
- Previous Theatre experience
- Previous hospital experience
