Job summary

We are looking for a Band 7 Healthcare Scientist to work with the Radiology Physics Department at University Hospitals Dorset. Final year STP trainees in DR/RP will be considered for appointment and B6 and supported to complete their training.

Base Location: Poole Hospital, cross site working will be required

Interview Date: TBC

Main duties of the job

  • Quality Assurance of ionising radiation imaging equipment
  • Guidance and advice in radiation protection
  • Teaching and training of other staff groups and trainees/apprentices
  • Participate in IRR & IR(ME)R audits

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A good honours degree in Physics or related subject and / or equivalent knowledge / experience.
  • Relevant M.Sc. and successful completion of the STP training scheme in an appropriate specialism, or equivalent.
  • Registration with the HCPC

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years working / training in appropriate specialism/s within Medical Physics (includes the STP scheme or equivalent).
  • Knowledge & experience of appropriate ionising radiations legislation, QC and optimisation techniques.

Technical Skills

Essential

  • Able to use Excel, Word, Access etc. to set up documents, spreadsheets and databases and extract information. Able to use specialized software to analyse complex data. Much of the complex imaging equipment used is software based.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of risks arising from a range of imaging techniques.
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from ionising radiation exposure

Language

Essential

  • Able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
