Histology Associate Practitioner

Band 4

Royal Stoke Cellular Pathology department

Working pattern - 7 day service with 3 shift patterns Monday through Friday. Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays run a 1 shift system.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Histology following Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including the Pathology Quality Policy, to provide clerical and technical support to Biomedical Scientists in order to ensure a high quality service in all areas Histology. The tasks will include; sample receipt and preparation, undertakes physiological measurement testing, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and updating of information systems. These duties will be performed under the indirect supervision/direction of a suitably qualified practitioner, under the direction of the responsible healthcare scientist practitioner, but usually as part of a team with practice appropriate for statutory regulation.

  • To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality.
  • Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input/ interrogate test results of others.
  • May be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/ or train less experienced staff in own area.
  • To be an efficient and flexible member of the laboratory team assisting in the delivery of the service.

  • NVQ Level 3/ in a scientific related field or equivalent level or applied training in specific discipline to diploma equivalent level.

  • Microsoft applications literate or attained ECDL.
