ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to provide 12-month maternity cover within a busy HR department. This role involves supporting and advising managers on HR and employee relations (ER) matters, ensuring compliance with policies and employment law.

You will manage the HR team, oversee recruitment, payroll, and HR processes, and collaborate with stakeholders to promote a positive workplace culture. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies in a dynamic environment.

STRUCTURE OF THE HR TEAM

The team is led by the Head of Workforce and Development and consists of one HR Advisor (this role), who is supported by HR and Recruitment Assistants, Payroll Assistant, and Learning and Development Assistant.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Employee relations and HR advice: Lead HR support for formal ER meetings (attendance, performance, and disciplinary matters) and provide expert advice on complex pay, recruitment, and policy queries, escalating issues where necessary.

  • Team leadership and process management: Manage the HR team and oversee key functions including the HR inbox, payroll (jointly with finance), and project work such as Gender Pay Gap reporting and staff survey analysis.

  • Stakeholder engagement and policy development: Build strong relationships across the organisation, ensure compliance with HR policies and employment legislation, and support initiatives to improve staff consultation, engagement and inclusion.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified to CIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR experience

  • Experience of working in employee relations to advise and guide managers on HR policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate the expected qualities of a HR professional

Job responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resource Operations:

  • Lead the HR support for formal ER meetings including attendance and sickness, performance, investigations and disciplinary matters, escalating to Head of Workforce and Development where appropriate.

  • Provide advice and guidance on complex matters regarding staff pay, terms and conditions, recruitment procedures, and HR policies and procedures, escalating to Head of Workforce and Development where appropriate.

  • Support the Head of Workforce and Development in policy development, the implementation of national HR initiatives and employment legislation.

  • Line manage the HR team as appropriate

  • Oversee the general HR inbox and deal with escalated issues to resolve matters

  • Oversee the payroll function jointly with the Finance Manager

  • Project Work such as Gender Pay Gap reporting, Staff Survey Analysis and other external and NHS requirements as necessary.

  • Diarise and attend monthly HR meetings with service managers and clinical leads as required.

  • Identify and take action to resolve issues and areas of concern, take preventative measures and promptly raise any areas of concern with the Head of Workforce and Development.

  • Pro-actively establish excellent working relationships with key individuals across the company. Maintain high focus on customer service through regular contact via e-mail, telephone and face-to-face.

  • Manage and maintain the ER case log

  • Attend relevant internal working groups and feeding back progress and updates to HR Team.

Reporting and Analytics:

  • Produce and provide accurate HR data on a monthly, quarterly basis or ad hoc as required.

Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement and development of HR teams procedures and processes.

  • Support with departmental reviews of allocated HR policies.

Line Management

  • General line management duties

  • Conduct monthly 1-2-1s with HR team

  • Conduct annual appraisal for the team

  • Support development of the team where required
